Transforming Communities Through Youth Empowerment!
Davida Gilchrest had a vision and through prayer and direction she created a foundation in 2007 out of Tarrytown, New York called
“KCS” (Keeping Communities Safe), a youth mentoring program for teens
between the ages of 14 and 23. The Program was totally funded out of pocket. The program started with a hand full of teens and within months the program grew to an astronomical number servicing teens and their siblings all over Westchester County including some Group Homes and Residential Treatment Centers.
"KCS" aims to change lives through truth, trust and transformation. At the program's core is complete honesty, encouraging our youth to talk about what is going on in their lives, the challenges they face and realities existing in their communities. "KCS” focuses on building long-term, trust-based relationships. Transformation comes about through participation in life skills training, education and employment. We are positive that as long as “KCS” is thriving, our youths' dreams will become realities.
The purpose of “KCS” is to build relationships with our teens and young adolescents who have been forgotten about by society. We hope that with this constant source of love and support, "KCS" will be instrumental in placing these kids on a path of independence.
Inspired by the joy we bring, we aim:
to increase community awareness and aid those less fortunate
to help educate those who cannot afford an education
to feed those who are hungry and assist in providing shelter from the weather
to establish programs for those that believe they can FLY!
